A SCREENWRITER COLLECTIVE

“To make a great film you need three things – the script, the script and the script.” – Alfred Hitchcock

Filmmaking is one of the most collaborative art forms out there, relying on an army of artists and technicians working together to wield the million-dollar paintbrush. However, within this industry, at the very inception of the process, lies the anomaly: screenwriting. The solitary and often overlooked profession is almost romanticized for its isolation, yet as we stare at the blank page with an idea in our head, the task itself can feel too daunting to even start. That's why The Writers' Bloc exists - to provide community and collaboration, screenwriters to screenwriters.

Together, we exchange ideas, offer feedback, dissect structure, theme, and character, break stories, ask questions, and hold each other accountable for getting those pages done. Located in Vancouver's Mount Pleasant, The Writers' Bloc holds court at the City Centre Artists Lodge on Main Street. Email or stop by with any inquiries, or just to chat all things story!
